Sean has a diverse history in the markets working as a broker, CTA, floor trader, and OTC trader. His introduction to the grain markets was working as a broker with commercial grain hedgers and producers. While working as a broker, Sean formed a CTA focused on interest rate hedging strategies for commercial borrowers.
Sean made markets in wheat options on the floors of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, the Kansas City Board of Trade, and the Chicago Board of Trade. His OTC trading was as an employee of FC Stone, where he built a proprietary options and swaps trading desk which made markets in grains, biofuels, and refined petroleum products. His team traded vanilla and exotic options facing FC Stone customers and other swap dealers. Sean O’Toole oversees the Compass structured products program, dairy and livestock hedging, and professional trade execution services for CHS Hedging. He has 27 years of experience in the commodities industry including time spent in risk management, futures brokerage, and trading. He is a past member of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, the Kansas City Board of Trade, and is currently a member of the Chicago Board of Trade. He was managing director of FCStone Trading LLC overseeing over-the-counter trading arm of INTL FCStone, Inc.
Outside of the markets, Sean worked as a software developer and recently managed a software development firm in Chennai, India. Much of his free time is spent restoring his 113-year-old home in one of Kansas City’s historic districts. When he's not swinging a hammer, Sean can be found flying various small airplanes over the farm fields of western Missouri and eastern Kansas.
Sean was born and raised in St. Paul and lived in Minnesota until moving to Kansas City in 2004.
